Reshape your Workstation With These 3 Critical Do's and Don'ts

Creating an ergonomic workspace is simpler than you might think. By following a few straightforward tips, you can significantly enhance your comfort and productivity. Let's take a look at Adrian’s workstation and explore how we can improve his workstation in a few simple steps.

Before:

Don’t #1: Improper Seating

  • Using a low-slung folding camping chair might be convenient, but it's not suitable for long periods of work.
  • It’s too low and not adjustable, leading to discomfort and poor posture.

Don’t #2: Incorrect Positioning

  • Sitting too low and far from the keyboard and mouse causes strain.
  • If you find yourself stretching your arms too far forward, it’s a sign that your workstation is not set up correctly.

Don’t #3: Poor Monitor Placement

  • A laptop monitor that’s too high can cause neck and eye strain.
  • It’s essential to have your screen at eye level to maintain a neutral head and neck position.

After:

Do #1: Use an Ergonomic Chair

  • Provide a fully adjustable ergonomic chair.
  • Adjust the chair height so that feet are flat on the floor and knees are slightly lower than the hips.
  • This setup promotes better posture and reduces strain.

Do #2: Position Your Arms Correctly

  • Position arms at a slightly open to 90-degree angle when keying and mousing.
  • Utilize a detachable keyboard and mouse to position them comfortably, allowing your laptop to function as a monitor only.

Do #3: Adjust Your Monitor Height

  • Elevate your laptop screen to a comfortable viewing height to ensure a comfortable head and neck position.

By making these simple adjustments, you can transform your workspace into an ergonomic haven that supports your health and productivity. Investing in the right equipment is a small step that can lead to significant benefits in the long run. Start with these ergonomic do's and don'ts to create a more comfortable and efficient work environment.
